The G6 is only good for a long weekend, however .... I need a bit more volume for food for a week long trip or a thru-hike.

I have a Vapor Trail too .... as well as a Nimbus Lattitude ..... great packs.

I don't understand the issue then ..... once you deploy this gear you still have a pack full?

    My most typical set up:

    Pack: Arc'teryx Needle 35 = 3# 2 oz.
Tent: Black Diamond Beta Lite = 1# 3 oz.
Bag: WM Hooded Aspen = 2#
Pad: Therma rest Prolite 4 full length. 1# 8 oz.

    total: 7 lbs, 13 oz.
Weights provided by respective manufacturers. In truth, my pack weighs more cuz i have a knife and compass mounted to it... Also, my "tent" (a floorless tensile tarp) has a "mosquito skirt" sewn into the perimeter to keep the bugs off me. I probably weigh in at more than 8.5 # considering modifications.

    Default Thru hike list

My AT Section or Thru-hike big four:

Granite Gear Vapor Trail 2 lbs
Golite Ultra 20 quilt 20 oz
    MYOG Momentum Bivy, 6.5 oz
    MLD Cuben ponchotarp, 3.9 oz

    3.9 lbs

Also .... I've found that using a Gossamer Gear Nightlight 3/4 pad, AND the Torso pad at the same time, makes for a VERY comfy night's sleep for about 12 oz.

    Default I'm there...

Ok - after some trial, error and $$$ I'm where I want to be....

Pack: ULA Catalyst - 2 lb 15 oz
Bag: Mont Bell SS #2 Long - 2 lb
Tent: Six Moon Designs Lunar Duo - 3 lb
Pad: Gossamer Gear NightLight 3/4 - 8 oz

    Total: 8 lbs 7 oz

I splurged and went for the Lunar Duo over the Lunar Solo - it's worth the extra pound to have all that floor space.

(I do not have the tent yet)

    Hilleberg Atko - 53oz
    Jansport Big Bear 5000 - 62oz
    Marmot Helium - 29oz
BA Insulated Air Core - 21oz

    Total= 165oz or 10.3lbs

I plan on getting a ULA Catalyst very soon. That would knock me down to:
    148oz or 9.2lbs.

I still consider this pretty heavy (compared to you guys atleast ) But thats sleeping in comfort in winter. For summer I plan on using a Tarptent and havent decided on bag yet. I know there are many ways to get that 9lbs down to about 6 easily but I like to sleep comfortable.

The trail was here before we arrived, and it will still be here when we are gone...enjoy it now, and preserve it for others that come after us

    Winter Gear:

    Pack: SMD Starlight 25oz.
Shelter: Speer III Hammock w/winter tarp 37.2 oz.
Sleeping: Speer PeaPod (overfill) 42 oz.
Pad: Big Agnes 15* pad 24 oz.

    Total - 128.2 oz. = 8.01 lbs.

I'll swap out the PeaPod and BA pad for lighter gear in summer. Should get me down to about 6 lbs.

    If you mean $ wise. Those items were $110 / $250 / $205 / $18 = $583

If you check my TJ you can see the gear that makes up the 3 pound base weight for this years LT.
For the Colorado Trail the base is going to be a bit heavier and will probably end up at or just over 5 pounds since I'm taking a heavier pack (10.5 oz), a bivy, a warmer bag, an Icebreaker shirt, and a camera.

To answer the question below. Up until this year I've carried at least a partial change of clothes for when I got to civilization and had a shower. I've decided that was a waste, so now carry only a change of socks. Other than the clothes you saw on the TJ, I may take a cap (1.6 oz) since it's handy in the sun and under the rain cape, and also the same old buff. I honestly don't like "luxury items", probably because I view them in terms of weight.
