I just bought a heavy pack (Granite Gear Virga large - 1#5oz.). My Golite Dawn is 14 oz. (both weights without the necessary ccf framesheet). I also have an unbearably heavy Montbell ULAP bag liner for the summer which weighs 15.75 oz. Add my Hennessy Hammock UL backpacker at around 2# and you have.......not much. I don't weigh stuff as much as I used to (I confess to being a former pack sniffer). I carry only what I need to be safe and reasonably comfortable. My pack for a mild winter 3 day hike last year in NY was around 28lbs. (including water). I carry enough extra weight around the middle .

Too lazy to check weights, but I think they are accurate.
    Pack:Go Lite Jam 2 21 oz
    Shelter:Tarptent Contrail 24.5 oz
Bag: Jacks R Better Stealth 17.6 oz
Pad: Z-Rest (2 sections cut out) 8 oz (estimate)
    4.44 lbs

I am good to low 40s with this set up. If it is colder, I wear my Primaloft jacket to bed and insulate below with leaves. I don't push the Stealth further.

If you live near a Target, in the cooking section they sell digital scales for about $24-$29 that accurately weigh up to about 11lbs in 1/10th ounce increments. They work really well and measure in grams as well.
