That makes a lot of sense now .... thanks!

I can't "weight" <sic> for the new revelation to come back to MLD ....

    (very bad pun intended)

tent: rei half dome 2 hc - 5lbs
    bag: big agnes yampa 40 - 2lbs
pad: big agnes insulated air core - 1.5lbs
    pack: osprey aether 60 - 3lbs

    11.5 lbs ha ha.

when i upgrade tents ill easily knock off 3lbs. otherwise I really like my pad, pack, and bag.. so thats the only place to really skimp weight is tent.

I also split tent weight with a friend, but if I were to go alone this is what I would be carrying.

    Tent: BA Seedhouse 2: 3lb 15oz
    Bag: WM Summerrlite: 1lb 3oz
    Pad: Thermarest Prolite 3 Short:13oz
    Pac: Osprey Atmos 50: 3lb 3oz

    Total 9lb 2oz

The Tent was purchased basically on price than weight, i also will be sharing it with my dad, so it is more like 1lb 13oz, i tried for a tarptent but it was not my dad's style, i may eventually cut down the tent and bag but i am fine with this combination and it works for me

I'm surprised to see some of the big 4 weights in this thread under Ultra-Light Hiking, 10lbs+ is not considered UL.

Hardly what I consider Ul but here goes for entertainment sake:

Aarn Peak Aspiration Body Pack(includes front pockets and waterproof liner) = 4lbs 0 oz

Etowah Meadows Tarp, Sea to Summit insect net, tyvek groundcloth, 6 stakes, ridge and guy lines = 2lbs 0 oz

    Big Agnes Air Core 72x20 = 1lb 5 oz

Sierra Designs wicked light 45 bag = 1lb 6 oz

    Total = 8 lbs 11 oz

Beats the 15 lbs I used to carry as big four back in the 70's though.

I could remove the front pockets on the pack and shed about 12 oz(or cut some of the un-needed material off them and lose 3, and probably go at the main body with scissors and get 8 to 12 oz more by cutting off the lid and a lot of the roll top extension collar and removing the beavertail, plus some of the overkill webbing, and strap ends that are way too long etc - but I'm just not comfortable doing that yet. Maybe at the end of this season. I'm also considering a lighter pack if I can find one that carries as comforably as the Aarn. I don't think I'd trade just to lose a pound though. If I'm going to go light, I want to get under 1 lb 8 oz on the pack. The Gossamer Gear Miniposa looks interesting. I don't need a lot of volume - 40 liters/2400 cu. total in would be plenty for my needs. So many decisions...

I'm thinking a few didnt notice this was in the UL forum. I usually just hit "vew new posts" and pay no mind to what forum they are in and go by thread title, hence my post earlier.

Sure ya don't wanna switch setups?

You could easily cut that to under 70 pounds by leaving the 12V battery at home and blowing up the mattress yourself. The battery is overkill for the AT anyway.

Thanks. That's good advice. I'm always looking to lighten a few ounces here and there when I can.
