Wind pudding with air sauce. All the UL hikers love it!

I like a Fig Newton with a slice of sharp cheddar.

Or an apple with a slice of cheddar.

    Never leave town without cheese.

    Richmor hands down awesome
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Add some cinnamon and a dash of cayenne too. Probably easiest to put the spices into a ziploc with the marshmallows.

For my first night out, I like to dehydrate cubes of Angel Food cake, then pack them in a container with frozen sliced strawberries. The strawberries thaw out and the juices soak into the cake. Heaven.

Very light but bulky: Rice Crispy treats.

Steam baked cupcakes if I can spare the fuel and the time. Not as good as dry baked, but can be done on an alcohol stove.

    Candyland trail mix-
    2 parts Jelly Belly
    1 part Skittles
    1 part Runts

Won't melt or stick together unless it's really hot- you get crunchy, chewy, and the explosion of flavors with the Jelly Belly's.

Simple Spiced nuts- Can be messy, but works in foil packet.
1 cup Mixed nuts of your choice (walnut, almond, pecan are better combo than just a mixed nut jar)
Cinnamon and nutmeg (or allspice) to taste
A dash of something spicy, smoked paprika is good.
    1/4 cup dark brown sugar.
    Spoon of oil/butter or dry

Combine and mix well, can be made at home easily.
In a pot, stir often and plan on a messy pot, although it's not as messy as you might think if you keep the heat low or cook over smoldering coals of a dying cook fire.
Foil packet- make the packet a bit oversized and flip it frequently and shake a bit as you do.

Keeping heat nice and low this takes about 20 minutes or so- campfire is best IMO.
Lots of good fats too for consumption on a chilly night. Goes great with a Chamomile Hot Toddy.
You can also make a larger batch- cool on a cookie sheet and break it up for a better for you "candy bar" on the trail.

    Popcorn works well too-
Bit tricky sometimes but a 1L pot with 1/4 cup popcorn, one tablespoon of oil is about right. Best over fire or other low flame. If you make on a stove it has to be very stable and requires some attention. Practice at home. Obviously easier with an Aluminum pot, but TI can work if you are good.

You can make (or bring) Jiffy pop style foil packets too.
1/4 cup of popcorn and spoon of coconut oil is nearly 400 calories- not a bad combo really.

DESERTS man theirs all kinds of deserts.
Take a Tortilla wrap, 1 banana, some strawberry creme cheese.
Slice banana in half if you wish to have more than one, lay in wrap layer with creme cheese ENJOY.
Muffins you can bake muffins in a alchy stove.
My all time favorite is Banana Nut Bread man this stuff is what dreams are made of.

I tried something on my last hike that's a WINNER.

Bake or buy an angel food cake. (Don't use other cakes for this. A cake with fat in the mix will go rancid.) Slice it fairly thin and dehydrate it. If you don't have a dehydrator, lay the slices on a cake rack, with a cookie sheet underneath, and put them in the oven, on the lowest heat, with the door ajar, for about four hours. They should be entirely hard and crunchy. Crumble them and store in Ziplocs.

    Pack: 1 cup cake crumbs
    1/2 cup freeze-dried berries - I used strawberries
1 envelope sweetened cocoa - I like better the kind you add to milk.

On the trail: Boil 1/2 cup plus a little more water.
Put 1/2 cup in the berries and set aside in a cozy 15 minutes (or while you're eating the main meal).
Put just enough hot water in the cocoa to make it flow for a chocolate sauce.
After the 15 minutes, pour the hot berries and all the juice over the cake crumbs and then put the chocolate sauce on top.

    Or:

    Pack: 1/2 cup cake crumbs
2 Tbsp instant vanilla pudding + 2 Tbsp powdered milk
1/2 cup dried fruit - I used pineapple, but mango, papaya, even apricot work well here. I threw in a couple of Tbsp of dried shredded coconut.

On the trail: Mix the pudding with 1/2 cup cold water and set aside to chill.
Mix the fruit with 1/2 cup boiling water and set aside in a cozy 15 minutes (or while you're eating the main meal).
Pour the cake crumbs over the pudding and push them down a little with your spoon.
Pour the hot fruit and juice over the cake.

Some of the cake stays crunchy, and some absorbs the fruit juices and gets soft and sticky. Explore either dish with your spoon.

I pack this using sandwich bags or craft bags for everything but the fruit. The fruit goes in a quart freezer bag with the other bags inside. The fruit bag is the only one that needs to take boiling water.

It's complicated as trail cooking goes, but so good!
I always know where I am. I'm right here.

Here is a link of a guy who bakes a cake using "Just add water" muffin mix, a Sea to Summit style silicone up, a pot, and a alcohol stove.

There is also a recipe for cooking a cake inside a hollowed out orange, wrapped in tin foil and thrown on a fire for 10 minutes

I don't know if white sugar is poison or not but I feel alot better when I'm off it and so on my trips I depend on raisins, dates, and honey. After a meal I usually get a sweet tooth going and so I may mix up organic peanut butter with honey. Another fave is natural jam without added sugar and this is excellent with pb on a rice cake. Larabars also are good and so are Probars I guess.

But really, the best is a small slice of organic raw goat cheese---it's like candy.
