Trail Start Time: April 30, 2009
    Approach Trail: Not sure yet

I'm thankful for the information about a thru hike from this website. I've
decided it is the time for me to get reorientated after a mid life
crisis, and having been a highway design engineer for more than two
decades. I don't feel I have too much enthusiasm in it. I talked to my
manager a few months ago regarding a quit or leave of absence when
I start the thru hike in April. The arrangement will be finalized before
I leave. An Amtrak ticket was purchased departing from Newark Penn Sation
to Gainesville, GA on April 29, 2009. I'm still determined to do it
despite the more than average raise I received today.
Life is just too short. Now I'm looking for some real good time for myself.
Thank everybody who contributed helpful knowledge about this adventure.

    P.S. I know I can't quit till it's done.

I've got my plans made, my gear bought, my wife convinced I'm going and I have a total disregard for the weather ...Yes I know I will be cold - let's see who wins me or Old Man Winter

Hiking alone but I will try and find someone who is going at my pace and can tolerate me around.

i think everyone from white blaze should wear a white bandanna on their left upper arm, like either choose a bandanna that is white or carry another. that way we know each other from the rest of the crowd, or heck i volunteer to design and make them to whoever will wear them

this might be seen as off topic but this is meant solely for 2009 thrus so it fits i think

    M.S.

I'm new to White Blaze and still trying to find my way around. I'm showing up on your spread sheet correctly as to date, but using my last name (calkins) instead of my trail name (Longhaul). Can you fix that?

Also, do I need to somehow register for this thread? I don't seem to show up as a "member"

    thanks,
    Longhaul

    Trail Name: Caterfly
    Direction: NOBO
Estimated Start Date: First Week in March
    Approach Trail: No

Why Caterfly ? Caterfly is a coined word to describe myself. I'll be
starting as a pudgy, slow "caterpiller" persistantly inching my way
toward Katahdin, and hopefully by then, when I reach the summit...I'll
fly away lookin' like a beautiful fit and trim "butterfly"....So, I
just combined the two words caterpiller and butterfly and came up with
"Caterfly". Its a hopeful, optimistic trailname to encourage me to keep
goin' when the goin' gets rough. I'm pretty determined, however, so
have confidence I can withstand whatever it takes !....That is, if
the world don't fall apart before then.

The spread sheet is set up by WhiteBlaze User Name. I added Longhaul to the Trail Name column. You replied to the thread, so you are registered. Everyone on the spreadsheet is a member of WhiteBlaze.

    See you on the trail,
