    Default Mississippi Trails

I am moving to Mississippi this summer and was curious to see if anyone here knew of any good trails in that state. I am moving to the SE part of the state. Thanks in advance for any info.

In 2000 I spent about a week in the Gulf area. Got bored real quick, and needed a trail fix. Drove north to the Desoto National Forest, and found two decent trails: the Black Creek Trail and the Tuxachanie Trail. They are both National Scenic Trails, and together provide about 60 miles worth of hiking along very easy terrain among often piney woods.

I was there during the heat/humidity of August and wouldn't recommend that, but I can see how these would make decent treks in cooler weather (cool being a relative thing in the Deep South). I also don't know how Desoto NF fared during the 2005 hurricanes.

Not much hiking in MS. Skyline beat me to the mention of the Black Creek Trail, the states longest. If you get the urge, we have several great areas in Alabama for loop hikes and also the Pinhoti Trail (140-ish miles in AL, before it runs into GA.)

Maybe start with the FS website for MS.

Most of it is a scenic drive between Natchez MS and Nashville TN, steeped in history. There are four "hikeable" sections. These seem more suitable for dayhiking than backpacking. More info here:

We're planning to bike the Natchez Trace sometime in the year or so. Incredible history!
