You averaged more miles per day last weekend and don't get us started on old. You're about the same age as Barney. In dog years.

I'm glad you handled that, Skids. Way too tempting a target for me.

I guess if I were able to make it then, I'd have to catch you on day 3. Exactly how many miles total have we determined this hike is?

23-24 in three full days? So like 10 miles, 9 miles, and 5 miles? Or are we talking like 5 miles, 10 miles, 9 miles? Whats the schedule here? If I decide I can go, should I make an itinerary? You've seen my itineraries, they are top shelf!!

Yes, please bring a very detailed itinerary. Skids really needs help getting organized.

Don't laugh at me about be organized. This hike I just did was really much easier IMO by my knowing exactly where I was every minute and having a goal to look forward to next. The very first time I ever went hiking, I just drove to the trail and went. I had walked like an hour and thought I was much much further than I really was. The little itinerary you had a copy of, I printed that thing folded it up and put it in my shorts pocket. Ever 45 minutes or so, I'd pull it out. It has times of arrival at the landmarks, notes about the hike, etc. written all over it. I put it up, hoping it might be worth lots of money someday.

I'm sure it will. BTW, does this mean you're making the hike?

I am thinking daily mileages will depend heavily on time of arrival at destination and planned time of arrival back at that destination! I mean, if we (if I go, which I am leaning towards now) don't arrival at the starting spot until like 2PM, I can't hike 8 miles in the mountains before I need to make camp.

TS, can I have the location of the starting point and trails planned to be used to make the loop please sir?

Backcountry Kiosk at the Standing Indian campground. Let me rumble around a little and I can do better, I think.

It's on the Bly Gap - Fontana Dam map that came with your Georgia maps.

Starting time is tentatively set as 10:00 AM Saturday morning. Weren't you going to ride up with Skids?

More details about the campground here.

hike through the campground area to Kimsey
    Creek
    > trail. Follow it about 4 miles to Deep Gap, where you will take
    the AT to
    > the left. This is southerly in direction but heading north an the
    AT, approx 18 miles. To
    > exit out, take the Long Branch Trail about 2 miles directly back
    to the
    > car. Almost no road hiking this way. The total loop is a little
    over 24
    > miles.

    RIGHT???

Yep, that's the one. Great views, the only terrain close to the Coosa Backcountry is the slope up Albert Mtn, and there's a "bad weather" route around that.
