    Default Off the Trail

I started March 20 and was doing great until I got to Standing Bear Farm on April 13. I got hit with an inner ear infection and some wicked vertigo. Curtis took me to the hospital in Newport and I ended up there for a day and half. I spent another couple of days at a motel because the doctors said if it was bacterial I would be good to go in 2-3 days but if it was viral I would not get better for 2-3 weeks. Well, it was viral and I came home on the 18th. Today the vertigo seems to fading finally but my thru is over. I had a great time and wasn't ready for my hike to end. Some day I will try it again.

    Sorry, that sounds really tough.

Did hiking in some way cause the infection??

Sorry to hear about the inner ear infection there.... They can be and as you have noticed can be quite wicked...

Hope you get to feeling better soon, and back on the trail at some point.

I am so sorry to hear this. I know how much it sucks to get off the trail.

Get better and hike the Long Trail in Vt. It's nicer than most of the AT in New England.
There's still lots of time for a LT thru this year.
