SNP Waysides
What are the opening hours during the summer of the SNP waysides?

Some of them close at 5:30.

Yeah, so I called them. There is variation in the hours over the course of the season, but here are the hours for the bulk of the summer:
Skyland restaurant: 7:30 am to 10:30 am breakfast, 12 noon to 2:30 pm lunch, 3:30 pm to 9:30 pm dinner
Big Meadows: 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
Lost Mountain: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Sun to Thu, to 6:30 pm Fri & Sat
Elkway: June to August 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Sun to Thu, 8:00 am to 7:00 pm Fri & Sat
In season, prior to June, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
The lady was nice but pretty unsure, she had to look each one up separately, and I would not treat this as set in stone. Also, it is not unknown that they close a few minutes early.

You can make Cowboy coffee from some good Fair Trade organic coffee. I like Sumatra but there many other tastes available. The SNP Waysides are not as convient as you would think. Plus a blackberry shake is the only way to go.
I've stayed at Big Meadows several times, and the lodge there always has fresh coffee in the lobby. It's just steps away from the AT, which passes directly behind the lodge. Leave your pack outside near the front door so you can yogi a cup.

yea be ready for early closings. got caught by that once, pretty depressing when your looking forward to a campfire hotdog, instead of mac and cheese or liptons for another night.
