woodsy, Idealist (either or both), 1Pint, Blissful, Paul Bunyan (either), BMECC's Corridor Management Chairperson and many others.

I'll fell trees with shelterbuilder anytime he wants help, but that's another question.

I'd hike with Wargy if he'd bring along some of his native American friends and they'd be cool with me pretending to be one of them and wouldn't find my doing so disrespectful. They'd probably laugh so hard they wouldn't care.

Blissful, if you figure out how to get Ed to hike with you, I'll go too.

My son because he never lets me give up and he is such a good soul.
My daughter for the challenge of keeping her going and the the joy of seeing her make it.

From the people at WB: Miss Janet and Dixicritter. We'd slowly wobbly up the trail and have a blast all the way to Katahdin.

From history: Benjamin Franklin - a man with varied interests and many ideas and ideals.

From my family: my maternal grandfather - I'd love to be able to talk with him now that I'm old enough to understand

Lots of votes for Dads ...

I remember sitting quietly at various times during my thru in 2003 wondering what my dad would think of me having undertaken the hike.

I'm doubtful he's available, but you could visit his home in Philadelphia. Haven't been there myself. It's pretty high on my list though.

    What a cool question.

I guess my father doesn't really count as a "historical" figure.

So in terms of dead people, I wouldn't mind hiking with Ernest Shackleton, T.E. Lawrence, or Richard Burton (the Victorian explorer, not the actor).

    Live people:

Well, John McCain would be great company. He's a great story-teller, has a fine sense of humor, and would never whine.

    Other great company?

I dunno. Scarlett Johansson . And she could whine all she wanted.

And if you see me tonight
    With an illegal smile
    It don't cost very much
but it lasts a long while
will you please tell the man
    I didn't hurt anyone
That I'm just tryin to have me some fun

well, i'm gonna go with dad as well. if it wasn't for him i wouldn't have the interest in the outdoors that i do. in his younger years he would have been able and if he hadn't been hit with type 2 diabetes so badly he would have done it in '05 with me. but now it doesn't much matter.

other than him any one of the early explorer types would be pretty neat-
kit carson(already mentioned a good one)
    daniel boone
lewis and clark(or maybe there indian guides)
    davy crocket

could learn a lot from these guys.

If we're naming people who aren't presently available, I'd hike with Myron Avery, Danny Hoch and Harry Rentschler.

Theodore Roosevelt, Gifford Pinchot and Percival Baxter would also provide an irresitible excuse to call off sick, even though everyone would know I wasn't really sick. I do show up when it's important!

I would hike with my good friend Mike, he needs to get away from life for awhile.

As far as an historical figure, either Daniel Boone or Davy Crocket
