This guy kinda seems like a wuss. Clingman's dome is no everest.
"I was hiking and it felt like a group of Indians could've walked right by me," he said, recalling the history of the trail and the area it covers. "You really have to go there in person to really understand it." Who calls Native Americans indians any more??? C'mon it's 2007 here, let's not carry on the ignorance of our ancestors, OK?

I didn't say that, but I believe that the gentleman was refering to Native Americans seeing as he mentioned history and the AT is in America.
Indians come from India. Think about it before you post something negative.

People from the country of india have a child born as an american citizen. That child is a native American Indian. "Indian" in regards to the natives who inhabited this country before the Europeans, is based on the misconception that when columbus landed here he landed in India. Make sense. By the way, I don't want to start an arguement, I just want to end the ignorance of the world. Don't be so mean...... and your capitalization sucks showing that you are probably under-educated mountain folk.

I know that LW can stick up for himself, but there's no need to start throwing insults at someone. Come on, man. If you want to end ignorance, look to yourself as a starting place.

The term American Indian, as LW notes, is also used quite frequently besides Native Americans. Additionally, the term Indian is still in use and even used by Native Americans.

The name Columbus should also be capitalized if capitalization is considered important.

Beyond all that, this news piece was a bit ho hum. I do remember the climb up to Clingman's as sweaty, but I did push through it. I thought the author's one or two 12 mile days to be a bit atypical.
