Kirby, all the best to you, on this journey of a lifetime...I'll be looking for you on the trail when you come thru Maryland, and I'll bring you a huge sub sandwich! Have a great hike.

think I'll go for a walk outside now...
Thank you everyone for the support, it's nice to know I won't be completely alone out there in the big bad woods of Appalachia.
I will be sure to track down all the WB locals as I come to their towns (Wolf, Terry7, TOW, Wonder, and CaseyB in Damascus, Jack in Hanover, etc.).
L.Wolf:
I'll keep you posted as to whether I need a shuttle to Marion, VA to catch a bus to meet my school mates, I'll look for your hell raising on WB when I get closer to make sure your still around.
I am planning a 5-6 month thru hike, nothing faster, nothing slower(need to be back in time for school).
Thanks again everyone, I look forward to seeing all of you on the trail, what ever that means for you.
Take care,
Kirby
Kirby, aren't you hiking with a group?
Looks like it's pretty much all been said on this thread already. Enjoy!
good luck KIRBY!!!! take lots of pictures....

Have a great time. And take it slow and steady the first few weeks. Enjoy!
Take it easy Kirby. I wish you the best. You're smarter than most of us, just avoid getting tied in and you will still be living the dream in ten years.
Good luck kirby, enjoy the trip, your very lucky to be able to do this at your age,
I'll be reading your trail journals.
Rock on dude
Kirby, what is your groups start date on Springer? If I'm up at Grassy Gap at the time I'll look out for you an your group and say hi.
Miles of smiles, Kirby
That ain't no easy schedule, hope your group is ready, good luck.

Kirby, I will be following your journal and I would be happy to help out anyway I can when you get to the area around the NY/CT border.
Best wishes for a great journey,
Tin Man
Good luck to you our young friend. You seem very mature for your age and have a "center" about you. A refreshing change to see in a kid these days.
If you have no objections, I would like to offer the label, Puppy, as your trail name. Pup for short. Not as a slight of your age but rather a reflection of your unbridled enthusiasim and your willingness to sink your teeth into your thru hike.
My guns are not as dangerous as Ted Kennedy's car
I know you'll do just fine, Kirby. Have a great hike!
Have a good time,. See ya on the trail.
I'm not really a hiker, I just play one on White Blaze.
Have a great hike young man.
