I saw the advertisement banner "Appalachian Pages" on here today.
What's the word on this new guide?

This new guide is being written by David (Awol) Miller and myself, along we many other volunteers. The web site and the sample pages provided on the web site should speak for themselves. It will be strictly a data book along with profiles. The idea was to make the book as small a possible, better organized, have all the necessary information and more for Appalachian Trail hikers. The book is not in print yet. We will be sending it to print very soon. We are still waiting for some of our team members to return their field data. We are also waiting for the ATC. The book will be printed ready prior to the 2008 thru hiking season.

Are the mini-maps suitable substitutes for the full size ones?
Looks good, thanks ATtroll and Awol.
"It was on the first of May, in the year 1769, that I resigned my domestic happiness for a time, and left my family and peaceable habitation on the Yadkin River, in North Carolina, to wander through the wilderness of America." - Daniel Boone
I don't know what you mean by mini maps. We are going to have trail town maps. We have discussed maps of the whole trail but we will not have time to get those in this year and they may not be feasible. We have a whole year to talk about them and see if they can be done for next year.
If you were to model this book as far as including maps and elevation profiles after anything, I would take a look at the Long Trail guide. There is way too much material in there as far as reading, but their maps and elevation profiles for each section are awesome. Adding at least elevation profiles is my dream inclusion in any thru-hiker's guide. Keep up the good work. I think your guide should have been better received than it was.
Definitely kudos to the Long Trail folks who got the entire trail on one map sheet with profiles and kept it usable for the dayhiker too. I had passed my map on to a group I volunteer for, a similar length footpath, that is facing a need to reissue maps and guides. Those "retired" hikers said the type size was too small, so the net compromised result will be only a 50% rather than a 90% reduction in overall bulk of the maps.
The same folks were a bit shocked on receiving an example of SGT Rock's BMT guide. Guess that type size was too small too.
I raised the font. See latest version.

looks sweet! the layout looks to resemble wingfoots book which to me is a good setup. it would be cool if it had some type of map system to go with it as an insert or a buyable option..
Sorry but I don't like the name Appalachian Pages sounds like a newspaper for yuppies that want to find a B and B.
how about" appalacians by the feet"
