Are there any campsites ( for tents and with water) between Pearisburg and Lamberts Meadow other than those mentioned in the ATC guide ? My wife and I will be hikng that section next week and would like options to shelters. Thanks.

There are almost always tentsites just north of shelters (Baltimore Jack just said this somewhere else and it is true). Anyway, that section of trail has many all over the place.

There are several sites just past Rice Field Shelter (also called Star Haven); there are several other good ones in the miles just past the shelter, including at least one with reliable water. You'll go through several grassy areas/small meadows, all of which are campable, but there are all sorts of other spots as well.

Keep in mind water at Rice Field is not always reliable, in addition to being a good stroll from the shelter; you'll cross a small spring just before the shelter; during dry or hot periods you might want to get your water there and haul it.
