:banana Hiking partner (s) wanted - NC Smokies

I am looking for a partner (s) who would like to hike half, full or overnight within an hour or two of Sylva, NC. This could be on weekends or long weekends, too.

Interesting.. The Smockies are famous for their lack of road access. Two days would be a day in and a day our from either end or the middle. Whats say?

Lots of trails within road access in the Smokies; there were 900 miles of trail in the park before the BMT was laid out.

    Aspen,
Me no care, me here free beer. Tap keg, please?

I was thinking of hiking Mt. LeConte or some of the other areas within easy access FROM the road. I am about 30 minutes from the GSMNP. Interested in hiking?

I will be in the Big Creek area starting on the 27th for 3 nights doing a loop including Mt. Sterling. Holler if interested even though its during the week.

Hi, Aspen -- I'm going to be in that area early December (12/7ish). Was planning on doing 3-4 days on the AT in the Icewater Spring-Silers Bald area, but Mt. LeConte might make it a decent loop out of Newfound Gap. Cheers -- Anodyne

That is a two night hike. A short hike to IWS then the next morning hike up to Mt LeConte Shelter, then come down Alum Cave trail and hitch a ride back up to Newfound Gap parking lot.

Hope you have your permits already. If not maybe you might get lucky if some folks cancel.

    Default Permits

Thanks for the heads up on the permit thing, although I already had the reservation for Icewater Spring. Called them again this morning for Mount LeConte and am good to go. Thankfully there aren't crowds clamoring for space in December.

    aspen,

The Carolina Mtn Club does alot of hiking in the Smokies. Check out our web site. There are half day, full day and overnight backpacks scheduled for first quarter next year. The hike schedule will be released soon. You might even want to join CMC,
