    Default availability of paid luggers?

Anybody ever hired an illegal alien or somebody else willing to work hard as their personal helper to do such things as set up their tent, cook for them, etc.?

I did once, but the extra weight in my pack really wasn't worth it.

You have to pay in cash and they eat too much!

Thats the downside. The upside is that you get to practice a foreign language, though

I already have one - the male dino works for food and ... ah... ummm... other amenities.

I almost did a sherpa gig for a woman that wanted to hike the WA section of the PCT. She would have paid for roundtrip air, food, plus $300 a week. I figured I could carry enough for two in my DanaTerraplane. It's probably a good thing it fell through, as I was having knee problems at the time and it was nearly a year before I hiked again.

Of course, I would have been illegal, since I had no intentions of paying taxes.

Aw, you beat me to it!

Why else bring the son along full time in 2007...he's my pack mule and cook. he he

...and the hubby for certain weeks. He still has to earn the bread and butter at home for us to do this.

I know a professor that takes a couple of students along on his summer hikes. The students carry his pack and do camp chores in exchange for college credit and some "education."

I have a few actual "Sherpa" friends in Nepal who would love to do this.
Sherpa's generally: carry your pack, dump it all out every night and clean every thing, cook your food, get your water, clean your clothes, learn what you like to eat and run around towns looking for the restaurant that best fits your needs, smile practically all the time, have tea ready for you when you first open your eyes in the morning.
PM me for their email addresses if anyone is serious. Of course, getting them here is the problem.

I'd do it for money. Hell yeah! I'd put it into my hiking fund.

How much you offering a week?

The Sherpa's in Nepal used to charge $5.00 a day.
I haven't been there since 2004. Perhaps the prices went up with everything else.

Here's a pic from our 2004 trip going up to our base camp at 15,000'
    http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/...imageuser=5137

They carried everything from a rolling pin to make our fresh chapitis to the 8 man 25 lb tent. (we had bought the tent for our 2000 trip as it was the same price as renting one) It's still over there if anyone wants to borrow a 25 pounder.

Quite possibly MS would like Nepal and the availability of someone to carry all his gear. IT's cheap and easy. However, there's other things to complain about if that's his goal and i'm sure he would be talking about the: food, 17 day uphills, altitude, ongoing war, water quality, etc. However i think he would agree that is some of the world's best hiking scenery and it is said that you can drop your camera (and it go off) in Nepal and you still would have a good picture!
Matthewski: didn't know you saw that old tent of mine, I heard you were busy running after the North Face huge dome tent though. Great meeting you and spending that time at the fire. Did i hear you playing guitar later on too? sounded good.
