Beer, flammable liquids and stupidity - bad combination but fun to watch.

These are some great tales to tell around the campfire.

My alcohol stove of choice is the Starlyte with the built in stand because I feel like I am less of a danger to myself and others. But my favorite for actually doing something other than just boiling is the Fancee Feast with the simmer ring because it weighs less than my Brasslite Turbo 2d.And sometimes I take the SVEA 123 R out of its bag and recall the Sound it made, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling everytime!

Avoid all the dangers of DIY stove projects. A couple bucks will get you a Fancee Feest stove that will last a lifetime of backpacking :-) Just ask FiveTango

Some of those reminded me of the time when I dropped a glass of flaming Absinthe onto the floor. Having also a glass of water I poured it on the burning liquid, which diluted it enough not to burn and the flames went out. But scary stuff.

Is Absinthe readily available, never heard of it before. It's anise/licorice taste reminds me of some potent stuff in drank in France way back when.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a key element of that JB meltdown that he left out... like maybe he had a windscreen wrapped tightly around it. Something had to hold the heat in for that to happen.

I'll go to the forum where I came across that video and ask him about using a windscreen.

Do It Yourself projects are fun. I hope this thread has enlightened some folks on the risks involved with stove making.

Depending on the state, but yes it is generally legal now to sell in the US, however with a upper limit on the Thojone content which is the substance that supposedly 'releases the green fairy' (hallucinant) .

With alcohol stoves, I just stay away from pressurized types. Even capillary types aren't worth the effort, IMO. So it's 2-3 minutes faster than a wicker? So what?
