New - or so I think.
    Southern Virginia trail.
Now has bear Boxes at the shelters.
I'm not sure how far up the trail they go.

Virginia has multiple smaller maintaining clubs, so there won't be a single policy regarding bear boxes at shelters. It depends on whether shelters are accessible enough to get a large, heavy steel box to them.

The shelter that I'm involved with, Paul Wolfe Memorial Shelter, has a pair of steel bear poles, rather than a bear box.

They'd just put bear boxes at all the shelters in the Triple Crown section when I hiked it in 2016.

I heard they put bear boxes at all the shelters in the Grayson Highlands area more recently.

The shelters in Shenandoah NP and maybe 20 miles north and south all have bear poles.

That's all I can remember... there may be a few I missed.
