"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." Abraham Lincoln (1855)
Totally agree. Hiked thousands of miles alone. Other than AT usually camped alone, and sometimes didn't see anyone all day.
I enjoy meeting other hikers, but it is not why I am out there.
Popped in for one of my 2-4 visits per year. Usually drop in if I'm looking at a section to see if there's any current info. Always good folks here to help out with useful and sometimes useless info (I probably fell into both of those categories once upon a time). This place definitely helped me spend money in the beginning but my kit has been pretty stable for a long time.

Time to wake this place up again. Facebook groups have become to boring.
All walkers of the AT need the wisdom of the AT Community on "whiteblaze.net "
Obviously can't speak for anyone else, but I will say this: none of my friends and family understand why my son and I hike the AT. Try as I might, they don't get it. The people here certainly "get "it. That's why I come here, because it is full of people that understand.

Hammock hangs are where you go into the woods to meet men you've only known on the internet so you can sit around a campfire to swap sewing tips and recipes. - sargevining on HF
If we don't want it to die, it won't. I for one appreciate all the wisdom that can be found here and the ability to get information and opinions from actual hikers instead of all the FB warriors out there. Seems to me that the people who take the time to post here are more "real" if you will. Just my opinion.
Grumps. Your opinion is a good one!
