Default Mt. Taylor conditions in late May

I'm told the mountain should still have snow then, is it a spikes kind of situation? I'm looking to do the alt, maybe for sunrise.

Sorry I don't know for sure and it's one of the few alternate summits I missed on my hike. But conditions vary so much yearly it's hard to predict.

Perhaps there'll be a hiker ahead of you posting conditions on social media. And it looks like there's a network of roads on the west slope that could provide a bail-out without retracing steps. The CDT is fun that way--lots of options.

I went over Mt. Taylor on May 9, 2021. There was a little lingering snow after leaving the summit (northbound) but not enough to cause difficulties.

Do you know if 2021 was "typical"?
