Today on the today show they talked about a Jr. Ranger. What's that? Does it let our buddies in to that park (Shenandoah N.P.) without a care?

The Junior Ranger program started sometime in the early 1900s (in either Yellowstone or Yosemite) as a means for young people to learn about a specific National Park on their own terms. Since then the program has expanded into most all National Parks and is open to interested youth and adults who go through a process of written and experiential works they can earn badges and patches unique to a specific park.

Additionally, there are volunteer programs at all National Parks that have tiers, including Special Volunteers who act as docents in many parks. Thumbing through the opportunities for volunteering the National Park system has some very interesting programs to get involved with, the Junior Ranger program is one of them.

Sounds like a great program to me!
Why in the hell would you charge volunteers and Junior Rangers in training? Who cares ?
