    Default Clingmans Dome

In event of a government shutdown, is the road to Clingmans Dome closed? Has it been closed during past government shutdowns?

    Thank you

The NPS claims that they are going to be far more agressive at keeping people out of the parks this time around. It may have been open previously but may not be this time.

If they’re not working, I’m wondering how they can enforce the closure.
I wonder what the Border Patrol is planning to do.

    Default Clingmans Dome

Law Enforcement Officers operating out of NPS and FS lands/offices are considered essential workers and will not be furloughed during this shutdown, assuming it occurs. I can't say how that'll translate to Clingman's Dome specifically, but that is the picture that has been painted in USFS internal emails. Typically, if a road has a gate on it, that gate will most likely be closed and locked (and IIRC, the road up to Clingman's Dome has at least 1 gate).

The House and the Senate passed a stopgap spending bill today that averts government shutdown for 45 days.
