Default Wanted to see if anyone met my dad in 1994. He thru-hiked NOBO. Recently passed.

My father recently passed (unexpectedly). His trail name was Sky Blue. He was a French Canadian hiking NOBO starting April 4, 1994 to August 23. It's a long and complicated story, but I only developed a relationship with him when I was 19 or so. We became very close. I'd love to talk to anyone who knew him or had met him during his thru-hike. I love hearing stories.

He put together a little book from the journal he kept during his hike. He wrote every night. I miss him, and I plan to try and thru-hike around the same age he did (when I turned 38). I'm completely inexperienced when it comes to hiking and camping, so I've been taking it slow.

Anyway, please let me know if you know anything.

I am sorry to hear you lost your father. I did a section hike of the AT in 1994 but I didn't meet your father. I got my trail name that year. To connect with people who might have hiked with your father here are some resources:

The ATC Journeys Magazine publishes a list of real names and trail names of hikers who completed the AT each year. The 1994 issues are not online but the ATC HQ might be able to get a copy for you: https://journeys.appalachiantrail.org/

Look for the "2000 Miler Listing" on this site and do a search for hikers who completed the trail in 1994. It looks like one has some photos online and another wrote a book.

TrailJournals.com would be a good place to look: https://trailjournals.com/journals/decade/1990

Here is a photo of a hiker named Sky Blue but seemingly not from 1994: https://trailjournals.com/journal/photos/681/7921/16165

===> Here is a photo of Jules "Sky Blue" Bosse from 1994 at the ATC HQ: https://athikerpictures.org/hikers/2779

I could cry. That last picture is my dad. I've never seen this picture of him. Thank you SO much. You've made my day.

As a spectator, really cool to see how a Whiteblaze member was able to quickly but significantly bless a daughter who misses her Dad. Well done, Captain Blue. Well done, White Blaze. And Baby Blue, good luck with your search.

You are welcome. I am glad I could help. When you get to the ATC HQ in Harper's Ferry on your thru hike you can sit in that exact same spot as your father and have your photo taken. The outside of that building looks the same as it did in 1994.

I like the fact that the first reponse post - out of the BLUE, was Captain BLUE who helped out Baby BLUE find a long lost picture of her dad Sky BLUE. Love how this came together!!!
.....Someday, like many others who joined WB in the early years, I may dry up and dissapear....
