Default Vandalism at Grange Hall Rd Parking--Dalton, MA

A Trail visitor who parked overnight at Grange Hall Rd in Dalton MA reported that an attempt had been made to steal his catalytic converter last weekend. This has been reported to the local police who indicated that similar thefts had been taking place in other locations (not necessarily at trailheads). We've received no other reports (so far) of other vandalism at AT trailheads in Mass--but we may not be contacted about every incident.

    Sorry about the bad news,

    Cosmo

I got my windshield busted out at the road crossing near Lee, Mass, left my car a few days to section hike, softball size hole in on the passenger side window, lucky they didn't steal anything,

Sad when you can't even escape to the woods!

Maine finally started cracking down on Catalytic theft. https://www.maine.gov/sos/news/2022/...nextmonth.html Its way too easy for sleazebags to grab a cat and sell if for cash to any number of dealers.

Good for Maine. Hopefully others will follow. One advantage of thru over section hiking. Don't need to worry about safety of vehicle at the trailhead.
