I’m going to start visiting that area soon.

Ouch... didn't realize Mount Rogers National Recreation Area was in Virginia.
I'm from Alabama where GSMNP is already an average of a 6 hour trip each way.

However, I've ridden the Virginia Creeper trail before (well most of it).
My wife and I went with a friend several years ago. We took two cars parking one in Abingdon and drove the bikes to the state line at Whitetop.
The first 20ish miles are super simple as it's basically all down hill from the state line to Damascus.
I had a speedometer on my bike, and when we got to mile marker 10 (10 miles from Abingdon) we were doing 10mph... great, we'll be finished in an hour.
When we got to mile marker 9, I noticed we were doing about 9mph... great, we'll be finished in an hour.
When we got to mile marker 8, I noticed we were doing about 8mph... great, we'll be finished in an hour.
When we got to mile marker 7, I noticed we were doing about 7mph... great, we'll be finished in an hour.
When we got to mile marker 6, I noticed we were doing about 6mph... great, we'll be finished in an hour.
We continued to get slower and slower... somewhere close to mile marker 4 we came to a trailhead. My wife had had enough. The friend with us rode on to the end of the trail to pickup the car and came back to get us.

    Hi,

Does anyone know if I can use my disability pass? I can visit National Parks for free and pay 50% on campsites. It's basically a Senior Pass but for those with disabilities. I section hiked Springer to Clingmans Dome in 2012. I'm planning to section hike Clingmans to Harper's Ferry in 2023. I don't mind paying fees, just want to make sure I do it correctly. I remember a ranger stopping me in 2012 and I didn't have a pass so he wrote one up for me.

    Lightbulb NPS Passes

The Access Pass, like the Senior Pass (which I now have, and refer to as my "Codger Card"), covers ONLY admission to federally managed areas. Neither covers fees for backcountry camping management. They provide a 50% reduction in fees for CAMPGROUNDS, but none for backcountry reservations or permits.
