Just plan on a major increase in shuttle fees this year. The cost of gas is a big part of a shuttle and I do not see prices coming down anytime soon.

Cash is king, no doubt. The problem is, with gas prices going up, that may be a legitimate concern. For example, I'm planning a hike from Springer to Damascus this summer. My plan is to take Amtrk to Gainesville, GA and a shuttle to Amicalola SP. I wonder how much cash I will have to carry on me

Did they just not put the payment in or was the payment somehow cancelled in paypal?

Here’s a thought for rapidly changing shuttle costs:
Debit card + ATM = $ cash. Anywhere.
Or. A credit/debit card at a service station = Full or partial shuttle payment in fuel + balance in cash.
All worked out with shuttle driver in advance.

Given the extreme increase in the price of gas lately, I would voluntarily offer a bit more if a negotiated price was agreed to more than a few weeks ago. It's getting ridiculous and might get more so. Almost all small business owners prefer cash to avoid the fees associated with electronic payments, so I always carry cash on the trail.

Gas has gone up about $1 a gallon here in WNC.
I get about 30 miles per gallon. So the difference is about 3.3 cents per mile; anticipate +5 cents by summer?

Knowing LW he probably trusted the hikers to pay him once they got service, and then they never sent it.
