    here is some interesting news to slow the catalitic thieves... the auto repair shops refuse to install used catalytic converters. they will only install brand new ones.

    will it stop the thieves? lets see how the platnum will sell on the scrap metal market?

    I wonder if most are not sold to recyclers. Meaning they are all torn apart, melted down and the precious metals are sold, the steel, the what-ever-else is all sold in bulk.

    There was a federal bust recently of a recycler that was responsible for buying an estimated 1/3 of the stolen converters in the country. They had the equipment and knowledge to break them down and process the internal parts to grab the valuable materials. My guess is the majority of those stolen are going to recyclers rather than the used market. Far less questions asked.
