Reservations at the park and sleep in it the night before. makes for a better nights sleep before the start and you are on the trail before the day crowds.

I like Scott but maybe this time he can save the champagne for later?

Just a guess, but champagne and a celebration won't be quite as problematic at Springer.

And honestly, I have serious doubts that anybody in his close circle would have forgotten how that played out. It was a mistake, and one they seemed to acknowledge pretty quickly.

And the topic was discussed in such detail that it ended up closed so enough on that old business.

Maybe he stayed overnight at Chimney Pond and took the Saddle Trail to the summit at first light and then started the thru going down the Hunt Trail/AT? It's about 2 1/4 miles from Chimney Pond to Baxter Peak via the Saddle - with a lot of elevation gain (2350 ft). Most of us mortals can't do it in 1 1/2 hours but I would think Jurek could easily do so.

I think Karel Sabbe’s record is untouchable so Jurek’s trying for the Southbound one.

Folks routinely climb to Baxter peak from Chimney Pond for sunrise. As long as ranger is informed in advance they are pretty flexible if in their opinion the party is competent.

It will be interesting to see how hard he's willing to push to chase Karel. It's an obscenely fast time. Someday it will be broken, but it's hard not to imagine it being on the boards for a while.

Two really short days (for him) if the tracking is correct.
    Sunday Aug 8: ME4 to ME17, 13.1 miles.
Monday Aug 9: ME17 to South Arm Road, 13.3 miles

Wonder if there is an injury or if the tracking data is off?

You're right, it looks like he's really slowed down before reaching the Mahoosucs. I wonder what happened? If not injured I wonder if he'll restart and try again...?

With two little kids, I've had to tap the brakes on FKT ambitions. Seeing Scott out there in his late 40s with two little kids is definitely an inspiration. Not sure I could get the pass for something like this though, haha!

Bad timing again. It's been wicked hot, humid and rainy and the smoke from the wildfires making it's way here regularly is resulting in bad air quality.

I wonder why it's not on FKT's website? If he does get the FKT, will he submit it there as well? Is there some kind of "bad blood?"
