Default Kristian Morgan AT NOBO FKT attempt starting 7/3/2021

They were suppose to start today (7/2/2021) but moved it to tomorrow due to heavy rain.

should be interesting to see the times considering Kristian is following Corey as well as the previous records. Makes more of a "race atmosphere."

Curious why the late season start of an AT FKT attempt given the heat of summer will be a major factor along the entire route as opposed to an earlier starting date that would be slightly ahead of hot weather. I don't see any competitive advantage to that, even if fully supported and the only weight carried is water.

    Starting in July?

Okey-dokey. IIRC, some of the attempts Spring of '19 were plagued with constant rain, so avoiding that kind of weather might be the strategy. But the heat-humidity double punch is probably worse.

I think he updates every few days. Last one appears to be 7/5, so no indication that he's given up. But he is off pace by about 40 miles.

    This is Corey's status

    7/05: to US-52 / Bland, VA 591.8 miles (44.1 miles behind after 12 days)

That's going to be hard to make up

This is first I have seen about Kristian's progress:
7/06: Finished at NC-143, 150.5 miles in 3 days (7.4 miles behind Karel's pace at this point)

Three days in and he is on pace. It seems that Strava is the only place where daily mileage is being posted. https://www.strava.com/athletes/8815157

Me to, but why so late in the heat? Simply because of long days of light? Because he will no doubt hit some pretty miserable, dangerous heat and humidity days.
To get out of the rainy season ?

His passing the midpoint of the trail on the summer solstice suggests that he was looking for exactly that.

Perhaps at his point of conditioning, the heat is simply not a factor.

When I ran a very short way with him last week, he asked if there was a break in the heat coming, and was happy to hear there was. So he's feeling the heat, just not letting it beat him. I'm sure his conditioning helps a lot with that.

Kristian is rolling nicely. He's the real deal. Let's hope he can hang tough once he gets thru the junk of PA and NY. He'll have a little break on terrain, then we all know what lies ahead. Killing it, nonetheless so far.
