I have a friend SOBOing currently. He was wondering if anyone knows what the hut situation is for thru hikers. Are they allowing work for stays this year? Doing lunch? Or are the basically having nothing to do with thru hikers this year?

The last announcement I saw is that they are not doing work for stays this summer. The huts are going to full occupancy after July 1st. I was at Madison Hut last weekend and they had snacks and soup for sale around 1 in the afternoon. The only real change at the huts from pre covid was a new water tap outside the building.
FWIW, I was SOBO this past year. I booked a sting of hut stays while zeroed at Rattle River for the first of three tropical storms. I had joined AMC, so got the discount. I know the expense means it’s not an option for most, but having the 4 walls and good quality food(that I didn’t have to carry, cook or clean up) made it worthwhile for me.
