At the top of the first big climb (Whitetop) you'll come to campsites in the woods, which aren't great, but walk a little further and out into the open and there is a good site on your right (going sobo) with great views and decent wind protection. There is an amazing piped spring about 1/4 mile further on the trail. Probably too early in the hike unless you start in mid afternoon.

Decent campsites near Lost Mountain shelter, though I prefer to camp on the other side of the trail from the shelter itself. Usually good water there too.

Once you get down to the creek and the Creeper Trail there are many campsites, but I don't really love any of them.

A mile or two north of Saunders shelter (and therefore well south of Lost Mountain Shelter) is a small pond by the trail in deep woods. There are decent campsites there.
