    They clarified this in the article - Mildred Ryder Norman - "Peace Pilgrim" - was the first woman to complete the Trail with a flip-flop hike in 1952 - she hiked with a partner, Richard "Dick" Lamb. Granny Gatewood was the first woman to do it solo.
