Back on topic - Anyone have a good USB charger? I see Anker has some options that combines the backup battery with the plug but it is heavier carrying the 2 separate. Any suggestions? Or is the white apple charger style still the best? I would like 4 ports if possible.
I use a two port AUKEY that looks like is no longer made: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is a newer version with 3 ports and only .5 grams more than mine. Looks like the plug also folds in.

Here is an Anker with 4-ports and weighs 70 grams according to the listing.

I appreciate the OP for getting me to think more about this topic.
I ended up getting this one. Not quite as weight efficient as the Nitecore, but I like the company better. And it does allow charge thru, which the Nitecore doesn’t.

FYI, Anker users:
I just received a new PowerCore Slim 10000(reordered the same bank from Anker through Amazon).
It is longer, wider, thicker, and 1.1oz heavier than the one I already had.
I don't know what's up with Anker that their 10000mAh power banks keep getting bigger(?).

Fortunately, it still fits in the ZPacks rolltop bag my electronic stuff lives in on backpacking trips.

btw, I don't actually carry 3, just stuck them in there for the pic. It's usually one for 1-3 nights, and two for weeklong trips.
One little nitpick of mine is the designation 10,000mAh. A milliamp is 1/1000 of an amp, so 10,000mAh is simply 10Ah.
I guess it's marketing... peeps like the BIG NUMBERS!

Things like wireless ear pods, cellphones, etc. list battery size in mAhs so it makes sense for powerbanks to use the same convention so you know how many charges you might get. It’s easier to work with whole numbers, than decimals, and a lot of people wouldn’t know there are 1000 milliamps in an amp.
I recently listened to episode 269 of the podcast Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail. All about electronics. Found it very interesting. The start is a little "nerdy" but even I understood it enough to get the importance of the rest of the conversation.

I researched power banks extensively a year or so ago and wound up with a RavPower 10k mAh. I talk about my setup and some weight saving cables in this thread ( https://whiteblaze.net/forum/showthr...ll!?highlight= )
I will say I regret the 10k, I should have went larger for a bigger buffer. I did 3 nights at Pictured Rocks and it drains down to "one dot" out of the 4.. so somewhere around <25%. That was 3 days of charging iPhone and watch every morning and Garmin in reach once. The iPhone didn't really need charged everyday.
As indicated earlier, I went with the Nitecore NB20000. I've used it a few times and am perfectly happy with it. Like a lot of things, sometimes one just has to make a choice and live with it. If something better comes along, it does. Mine is still a good choice for me.
I recently listened to episode 269 of Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail. They had a guest who talked about electronics and recharging etc, including how to decide on what wall charger to choose to get better charge times. Good info.

Popping in for some advice:
My new iPhone 13 Pro is supposed to arrive today in Boone, NC. Current road conditions prevent my driving to Boone for a day or two.
In the meantime, the 13 series phones use USB-C charging. Whatever that means.
I may be in the market for an external battery to recharge the phone when I am away from wall outlets.
What say Y’all?
Thanks for your help!

It actually still uses the Apple Lightning connector. The difference is the other end is now USB-C instead of USB-A. The Nitecore NB10000 can charge USB-A or USB-C.

The iPhone 13 Pro has a 3,095 mAh battery. Choose your power bank size based on how many times you think you will need a recharge before getting back to a wall outlet.
Would anything bad happen if I use a USBA battery output and a USB-A to Lightning cable between the external battery and the phone?
Thanks!

Thanks!
I already tried one of my USB-A power banks and it worked! I guess it’s slower, but I recharge at night so I don’t notice the recharge speed. I’m sure it will recharge while I am sleeping.

Your powerbank will have an output rating. It may even have more than one output rating depending on if it has multiple ports. The output rating may not be as great as that delivered by your usual power brick. Some power banks also have charging technology that may modify how the power is output from the bank.

Alligator,
I have a pair of cheaplo Sam’s 10k batteries. The thing charged my new iPhone 13 Pro about 15% in 20-30 minutes.
I don’t know if that harms the phone. If not, then the USB-C crave might be mostly marketing hype. What else is new?
The next time I go to Target I will test drive one of their USB-C batteries.
Thanks for all the help WhiteBlaze!
