Not only do gaiters keep debris out of your boots, they also close the gap between your socks and pants which helps to keep ticks and chiggers from crawling up your leg. I treat the gaiters with permethrin. Most of my hiking and trail maintenance work is on the Ozark Trail.

The permethrin sounds like a good idea

I took a pair of gaiters on my thru. They came up just under my knee. I probably used them 25% of the time. Wore them on heavy rain days, on cold days and when their was a Lot of poison I’vy near the trail.
