    Default Mountain Crossing

I heard that the hostel was closed. Does anyone know when it will re-open?

You may be able to find out from a shuttle driver. Try Ron Brown he is pretty much always in the know on these kind of things

    AT Map 2: 265.0

I watched a video posted by a thru hiker on trail. The hostel was closed last week. Not sure if it's temporary.

They maybe having trouble finding someone to manage it. But it's still kind of the off season. It won't really get busy there until March.

Or could they be doing their part to discourage thru hikers this season?

Just a guess but that place is soooo small and cramped inside, they may not be able to be open safely when busy due to Covid. Plenty of camping just past going nobo, up on the hill.

There is a link to contact them at the top of their website.

That is my thinking as well. That hostel is tight quarters and probably not fit to be filled with a bunch of hikers. Aside from camping just up the hill, Bull Gap is 0.9 mi north and has plenty of space for tents. I recommend filling up water at Mountain Crossings as the water source at Bull Gap is a little trek.

A search online came up with instagram post saying their phone lines are down. I do not have Instagram so couldn't read the entire post. Perhaps store/outfitter might be open and hostel closed but am only guessing. Maybe someone can look on Instagram to see the whole msg.

I just looked at their Instagram site; the newest post is 2 weeks old and is that they're looking for former thru-hikers to work there. Nothing about phone service or other contact info. (the email for the job is [email protected])

I can't see a date on the post. When I try to click on it, it says I have to login. Could be an old post, but no way to tell.

Quicksand stopped in there on his AT NOBO a week ago or so and they told him they were not opening the hostel this year due to Covid concerns. That was the last I heard.
