    Default February temperatures?

Does anybody know what the average nighttime temps are toward the end of February on the trail?

It can be a complete gamble. I was on the Pinhoti in 2018 in February and it never dropped below 40 degrees. Some years/days/weeks it could be in the 20's or lower. This was in the middle 108 miles of the trail, FS500 Ranger Station to High Point Trailhead. Best case is to plan for cold, check the forecast a week or two out and go from there.

Last year i started at Springer on 2/11 and got off at Erwin on 3/16. We had nights got down to 17F. But last year was a mild Winter. We did have 4 snows, cold rain or sleet on about half the days.

Like others have said, it can vary drastically. But FWIW I hiked the AL section in February and was comfortable. Lows in the low to mid 20s at night, highs in the high 60s. Rain can be rough out there that time of year.

According to Google - the climate average in February (High/Low):
Cheaha State Park (Southern Terminus) 55º/32º
    Springer Mountain (Northern Terminus) 46º/28º

In my experience "normal" weather will typically be +/- 10º or so from "average".
That means you can EXPECT temperatures:
    Day-time highs: 36º to 65º
    Night-time lows: 42º to 18º.

But weather "events" can easily push those numbers to +/- 20º or so from "average".
That means there is a reasonable possibility that for a few brief days temperatures might be:
    Day-time highs: 26º to 75º
    Night-time lows: 52º to 8º

Of course weather extremes can push those numbers even farther.
