Default GSMNP Cabin Flats site #49

For those familiar with the camp site are there plenty of locations to hang a hammock? Thanks.

Until someone chimes in, contact their back country office and ask. Hammocking is considered a tent, so OK and they are very helpful.

    Lightbulb Here's a start

When I did an internet search for
    great smokies camp site #49
    I found a site
    https://hikinginthesmokies.wordpress...g/campsite-49/
with this photo of the camping area:

Do a similar internet search and you'll find a few other photos, including one of person having hung his hammock.

    fwiw, on that campsite....

continue down a little bit inside the campsite for the somewhat better sites.....

the upper ones (if memory recalls correctly) were used by horse people and what not.....

and fwiw-----it's a decent site.........didnt do much for me though.........

Nothing in GSMNP is above treeline, so every campsite has someplace to hang a hammock.
The only exception during "normal" times would be at shelters. As mentioned above, park rules for hammocks are the same as for tents, and tenting at shelters is normally not allowed. But in the wake of Covid-19, the park service has at least put in place a temporary rule allowing tents at shelters there-by allowing hammocks at shelters.

49 is a great site for hammocks. Itís a pretty large site. If you continue through the site past the horse paddock thereís another small site with spots for hammocks along the creek.

A few years back, a few of us went to #49. My brother had an excellent hang there with his hammock. We picked a site next to the creek. 20170303_142827.jpg
