    Default Recommend short sections...

So, in 2017 my wife, my dog, and myself thru hiked. Our first and only backpacking trip. And loved it! We’re back on the east coast, and have all our gear, and are planning some week-ish long trips, around visiting kids. So recommend your favorite 100-150 maybe mile sections? We’ll probably start with Shenandoah, because that’s about where we are, and we enjoyed it last time, and because blackberry milkshakes! What next?

Maine is what most folks think of when they think of the AT. Hard to pick a bad section. IMHO Its the only state that has a true wilderness feel (on the AT in the East) Yes its PITA to get shuttles in place but once you are on the trail there are as lot more thru hikers than dayhikers. The 100 MW is great but suffering from overuse. Lot to be said if you not trying to do big miles at starting at RT 4 south of Rangley and going over the Saddlebacks to Spaulding and Sugarloaf and the Crockers maybe adding in Bigelow (unfortunately a PITA to shuttle to or from the east side of Bigelow, unless you add a day and take the Maine Huts and Trail route back to Carrasbassett and stay at their hut at Poplar Stream. Bigelow to Monson is a nice stretch that includes the Kennebec River crossing. This after Avery Peak on Bigelow stretch gets little use other than thruhikers and has a nice mix mountains lakes ponds and rivers.

Roan highlands, Rodgers mountain definitely in the plans!
Maine was great! And we loved the Rangley area. Would love to do any of that area again!
