On the most recent local 3-days hike, we came into a heavy thunderstorm while camping pretty high up on the Alps.
Although we knew about the upcoming storm beforehand thanks to very precise weather forcast, and although we selected the campspot very careful, we did wrong.
During the heaviest of the showers that were rolling in in waves, we realized that the tent was sitting in a big puddle and the pads were floating, only separated from the water by the flimsy tent floor.
No immediate help possible without getting hammered by the hail and soaked by the downpour, so we sat it out until the rain ebbed a bit, when I was able to get out and dig a drain, which didn't help so much, so during the next ebb we repositioned the tent.
On the positive side, the tent performed very well: After floating in the 10cm deep pool for some hours, there was no water inside the tent aside of what I had carried in by getting out&in several times, and nothing that coulnd't be swept up with a sponge easily.
On the negative side (and unrelated to the water event) the MSR tent now starts to suffer from the weak-shockchord-syndrom, as the Exped tent had suffered before.
Not a big problem, our favorite outdoor shop was not too far away and the girl working there, smiling knowingly, pulled out the big roll of spare chord and cut the length needed without charge.
