    Default melanzana Hoodie question...

I just dont understand the popularity
With various combinations of layering a puffy, base layer, hiking shirt and
rain shell, just seems like extra weight, bulk.
I am a gear junkie tho, and usually when something is as popular, it must be considered.
Why is it so highly regarded?

    Comfortable to wear
Fantastic hood that cinches around face when cold

Exclusive....hard to get is responsible for latest surge

Not that many really want or need a 12 oz 100 wt fleece hoody.

If days will be warm....i dont bring it. Long johns and windshirt is more flexible on cold morning, and only 6 oz.

If days are cold....i do, and may not take it off for a week. Ive worn out elbows in them.

It truly is because of John Zahorian, one of the owners of Pa'Lante Packs.

He racked up like 10k miles using nothing but a melanzana.

All the fanboys now rock mellys.

That's pretty much any fleece for anything but active wear in low temps, unless you're cold natured.
Useless anywhere within a few hours of here except during a polar vortex.
I know it's not the same thing, but the R1 hoodie is also "popular"('course everybody doesn't live in Alabama!). Gave mine to a friend who runs cold and lives in the NC mountains. He wore it quite a few times this past winter, whereas I'd been able to use it only once in the last 3 years.

My opinion my Melanzana hoodie is much more versatile then a base layer, shirt, puffy combo. I wouldn't hike in a puffy unless it's synthetic. Leaving it useless for me until camp which I can always wrap my sleeping bag around me if I'm cold or just get in my bag and call it a night. I use my Melanzana for while walking and keeps me fairly warm in camp with my rain jacket if its really chilly.
