Exclamation From Baxter State Park: No summit trail open before 6/15.

    Just got off the phone.
    It's official:
Trail specialist reports many Baxter trails, not just Katahdin ones, will not open before June 15th.
    Adjust your plans accordingly.

    From the park:
    TRAILS UPDATE

All Katahdin trails, including the Owl, North Peaks, and Northwest Basin remain closed and are scheduled to open June 15 if conditions allow.

Chimney Pond trail remains closed and is scheduled to open June 15 if conditions allow. (Picture of Chimney Pond trail below taken 5/28/19)

All trails to summits of Traveler, South Branch and Black Cat, South Turner, OJI, Coe, the Brothers, and Doubletop remain closed and are scheduled to open June 15 if conditions allow.

Katahdin Lake trail is closed due to a bridge that is out and dangerously high water levels. Trail will remain closed until further notice.

The East Lookout Trail on Horse Mountain in remains closed to protect nesting Peregrine Falcons (Horse Mountain trail is open).

All other trails are open. Expect very wet conditions.

Updates will follow as we continue to monitor and assess trail conditions.
