    Default Freeze Dried Meals

I have 17 commercially made freeze dried meals for sale. I no longer eat these as I started making my own a few years back. they are all PAST THE DATE printed on them. if I ate these any longer, I would still eat them. This is an "all or nothing" deal. I will not sell these separately. I am looking for $60 including shipping for the whole lot.

what does "past the date printed on them" mean? I thought MH meals were good for like 30 years?

All food products have to have a "best buy" date. But yes, my understanding is that MH and similar meals last 25-30 years.

upon further inspection some of them have manufacture dates. These are generally 2013. I have some with "best by" dates in 2017 and 2018. There may have been a change in the labeling requirements after 2013. I don't think I bought any of these after 2014.

FWIW,I ate a MH meal once that was about 10 years past the "use by" date and lived to tell about it.And the taste was not bad either.

I hate to hijack this thread but it appears that's already been done... Best by dates are required by retailers (not the FDA) in the US for products that don't have an expiration date. They're basically used by the retailer to rotate stock and to placate consumers demands for "fresh" food. Many other countries don't even bother with best by dates. Best by dates are generally extremely conservative and set by the manufacturer on a date by which they think the flavor *could* start to degrade.

For most packaged foods, especially dehydrated and canned foods, you can let your nose and taste buds determine when the product has reached it's end of life. The biggest watch out is if the packaging is compromised if, that's the case throw it out, if not eat it. I would have no concern eating dehydrated meals that are a few years out of date as long as they're still sealed.
