    Default loft mountain stealth campsites

Planning a 75 mile sobo section hike later next month. Planned to stay at Loft Mountain Campground first night after about 17 miles, but there are no tent sites available at the official campground. Appear most are "closed" I am guessing from the storm. I have seen some info about some sites close to the campground. Is there a fair number of stealth campsites nearby?

It says it's supposed to open May 14. They're clearing up downed trees from an ice storm. It says Skyline Drive from Loft Mountain to the south entrance is also closed.

The SNP backcountry regs state that campsites must be at least 1/4 mile from a paved road or campground. The trail stays within 1/4 mile of the campground for over a mile, from the side trail down to the wayside until you get past all the many side trails going up to the campground. You could probably find a decent place to camp up on the ridge before you reach the wayside trail, though, and there's a signed spring about a mile to the north of there.
It's all good in the woods.
