I have decided to do a third thru-hike this year, this time SOBO. 2010 NOBO, 2018 Flip-Flop. This is what happens when I have too much free time on my hands. Starting on July 4th from Katahdin.

Damn,,do you not work or have a family,,I guess if you were homeless like ,,why not.
After a while, it becomes the norm.
You wait and work in the winter to get ready for next year's journey.
I did it for 16 years.
Got a bit lonely and so..........got married and had a kid.
Now I'm waiting for him to get old enough so I can do another long one.
Good luck and Have Fun!
Don't let your fears stand in the way of your dreams
The thought of doing a large portion of a thru during the Fall sounds appealing! Best of luck!
It is what it is.
I forgot about this post, I finished my SOBO in 132 days. After completing a NOBO in 2010, Flip 2018 and SOBO 2019, I’m calling the AT done. Hope all of you 2020 hikers have fun and wish you luck.

Quik, I am a 2010 hiker (NOBO) as well. We met on the trail (an't remember where or when) although my rail name is not what I use here. Anyways, I am thinking of another thru and will probably revisit the AT again just due to the logistics being easier (closer to home). Can you compare/contrast your experiences on a flip hike vs SOBO?
Good luck and have fun. Have you thought of other trails? The triple crown?
I was going to ask the same thing.... Yeah, the AT is super-cool, and I'm kinda doing it a second time in big pieces for my wife's benefit, but there are a lot of options out there for some really cool hiking the PCT or CDT spring to mind. There are pretty cheap flights from Atlanta to San Diego (PCT) or Tucson (access for CDT). I do understand the appeal of repeating trails, I do it all the time, I'm just sayin'.

I enjoyed the different directions in this order Flip-Flop, SOBO, NOBO, simple answer fewer people and milder weather. Other than that I don’t recall too much difference in flip vs SOBO as far as hiking goes, less $$$ on transportation to from start/end.
Hey no fair I asked first. . impressive resume there you are acquiring.

Thanks, just playing, all good in the woods.
Good for you, the trail will be different SOBO and you'll see the other side of the trees.
