for that matter, cherokee national forest is in both TN and NC as well.

and yea, you still left out the GA header, even though Amicalola, et al is listed under NC.

This list has major omissions and the trail in Maine does not go through the White Mountain National Forest.

    The major omissions include:

Mahoosuc Preserve, Four Ponds Preserve and Nahmakanta Preserve. Mahoosuc runs from the New Hampshire border to the East B Hill Road north of the multiple Baldpate summits. The relatively small Grafton Notch State Park divides the Mahoosuc Preserve, which totals around 40,000 acres.

Four Ponds is around 15,000 acres between Route 17 and Route 4 south of Saddleback. Nahmakanta is about 40,000 acres located south of Baxter State Park in the so called "100-mile-wilderness."

All three, along with Bigelow, were created in part out of the recovery of 400,000 acres of land that Maine reserved when it sold its public domain during the first half of the 19th century -- and then forgot what it had done. The scattered acres were treated as private lands for more than a century.

Out of court settlements and eventually a Maine Supreme Court decision resulted in the swapping of scattered 1,000+ acre parcels for larger parcels of equal value and more suited for public recreation and state forest management.

There are a number of smaller state preserves through which the trail runs. I don't have a complete list.

    Weary
I imagine there are a lot of "smaller" areas like this that have been missed in ALL states. Keep up the good work! Id really like to see a complete list, no matter what the size of the lands.

I would definitely like a complete list for myself. Has anyone seen one? I don't want to try and re-invent the wheel here...

Weary: I know there is stuff missing, I was using the ATC Wall map as a guide and there is no way they are able to go into such detail on that small a scale. This is the kind of stuff I wanted to get. I figured people (esp. lived near the various sections of trail) would know their own states best.

Solemates, Whistler: Does the trail actually go through the Chattahoochee or Cherokee NF in both states? (This was sort of Weary's point about the Whites I think)

    Anyway, here we go again:

Oh, I contacted the ATC by email yesterday to see if they had a complete listing. I'll let you know if they give me one--obviously.

The small section of the White Mountain National Forest that is in Maine is located several miles south of and across a major highway or two from the Appalachian Trail.

All of the following are in VA and are wilderness areas:
    Lewis Fork
    Little Wilson Creek
    Beartown
    Peters Mountain
    Mountain Lake
    James River Face
    Thunder Ridge
    Three Ridges
    Priest

In addition, I noticed the Mount Pleasant Scenic Area.

That's it for this evening. Those were easy as the color coding is different.

The entirety of the Georgia AT lies in the Chattahoochee NF.

Springer is well outside of Amicalola SP, 7 miles+. Only about 1.5 miles of the Approach Trail are in Amicalola proper.

Some more national designations info for Georgia, if you want it:

    My Continued Thanks!
    Solemates: where is Pen-Mar?

Would including names of county parks make the list prohibitively long? I like how this list is shaping up though.
