Default PCT or AZT mid May?

I will be in Phoenix in mid May and was planning on spending a week backpacking somewhere, looking for fun hikes, don’t really want to do any grand canyon but wouldn’t mind getting over to PCT or even great spots in UT or NV. Any suggestions would be great.

It's probably too hot then for desert sections of the AZT. Closest good hiking would be up on the Mogollon Rim, say from Payson or Pine to the South Rim of the Canyon. Nice thing about the Canyon is there are easy shuttles back to Phoenix, with a night in Flagstaff.

The Gila Wilderness and the CDT in NM would be nice that time of year.

There would great spots in the Utah desert too, but I have little personal experience there. Others are sure to chime in.

a good hike is in Utah/AZ Buckskin Gulch to The Confluence and then down to Lees Ferry.
