The North Country Trail Association is already showing a tentative route for this trail extension on their interactive map. It crosses Lake Champlain at a bridge to Chimney Point VT. Looks like a lot of it is on roads as of now with the exception of the already existing "TAM" trail around Middlebury. It hooks up to the Long Trail where it crosses VT 125 east of Bread Loaf. I think Middlebury would make for a really cool trail town, though maybe that's because I'm partial to college towns.

A person could do a "collegiate" hike by putting together the AT, Long Trail and NCST from Dartmouth College in Hanover NH to Middlebury College.
