Default Damascus Va parking for a week

Planning a spring break hiking trip from Mount Rogers National Recreation area headquarters to Damascus. Looking for some help with someone familiar with the area on a place I could leave a car for the week in Damascus and pick it up once we finish the trail.

Would consider a safe roadside parking recommendation of somewhere I could pay to make sure my vehicle is secure.

    appreciate any help

IMO I would leave my car at mount rogers start point(visitor center im guessing?) and once walking into Damascus, catch a ride back to your car. With many shuttle services located in Damascus that should be simple enough.

If you are dead set on hiking with your car at the end point, may try crazylarrys. Lone wolf should be along shortly with probably a better idea of where to park in Damascus.

Yes, Lone Wolf will have the best advice. He gave me a recommendation 10 yrs ago for where to leave my vehicle in Damascus during a hike into Damascus. Then had his buddy give me a shuttle to the start of my hiking trip.

Ive parked my new subaru outback at Crazy Larrys for a week with no issues.

He was super cool and accommodating. He even let me park back behind the house

Exclamation Potential problem with Mount Riogers Visitor Center

I would leave my car at mount rogers start point(visitor center im guessing?)
I've attempted that twice, but became aware of a problem in doing so: the lot closes at 4:30pm on weekdays, 4pm on weekends. If you arrive after hours, you might not be able to get your car out of the lot till the next morning. If you feel confident about getting there before closing time (like I did the second time), then it's no problem.

    Thx for the replies,

Ran into the same issue with parking at the Mount Rogers Headquarters parking closed at 4pm on weekdays and weekends.

Its sounding like the Library or Old Mill might be a reasonable option. I found the long term parking form you can fill out and leave at the Sheriffs office. Just hoping its a safe place to leave the car for a week.

    appreciate everyone's insight

Crazy Larry's is good option. Spend the night there and start your hike fresh in the morning.

I parked at the library not long ago for about 5 days. Just had to go in and fill out a pass in the library so they don't tow it. Felt pretty safe leaving it there as it's right out in the open (not behind a building or anything).

Ask at the police dept. They will tell where you can leave your car for a extended time.

Added wrinkle...where can I park long term in Damascus and be able to retrieve my vehicle in the midst of Trail Days? I'm doing a 2 week section this year and want to arrive in Damascus right in time to experience Trail Days. Not sure how much of the town is inaccessible or if any of the usual spots might prevent my exit.

JUst my 2 cents but I did this same plan when I finished the state of TN. I walked into trail days, and called my shuttle in about 30 minutes to take me back to my car. Trail days was most definitely not for me.

Lol, I'm not much of a crowds or party guy myself. But figured I'd like to at least give TD's a shot. I hope I can hold out longer than you did!
