Can any one recommend heavy weight Winter socks for the trail?

In many cases you are better off with a light liner sock underneath a heavier sock. Be aware that keeping your feet warm in winter requires keeping them dry. Unfortunately feet perspire so if your boots are perfectly waterproof you will end up with wet socks and cold feet.

Smartwool has nice heavy socks at similar price to the DTs. I'd bet either would make you happy.

I suggest starting with cheaper REI wool socks and see if they do the job. I use the REI socks and have used the same ones for 5 years with no issues. If they do not meet your needs for any reason, move on to a more expensive alternative. I also use a sock lined which reduces friction and keeps my feet warmer.

My family attended a presentation by Jennifer Pharr Davis at REI last year or the year before and they gave out Farm to Feet wool socks. They’re amazing!

The best winter sock (or any seasonal sock for that matter) is subjective to the individual and is the topic of many considered debates. How much do your feet sweat? What type of shoe or boot is being used? What are the temperatures that one will be exposed to? How much snow will be encountered and will it's depth allow it to enter the shoe? Will gaiters be used and if so, what are their wicking properties?

For me, smartwool socks tend to work best for warmth and wicking, however a few people I know prefer Darn Tough socks, others use a combination of a liner sock and wool outer sock. Getting a few different pairs of socks from an outfitter who has some expertise with footwear will probably get you close if not exactly what you need.

That's the nice thing. You can try all sorts of socks for pretty cheap. Hard to do that with say, packs, assuming you don't go wild with try and return.

My kids bought a pair for my wife at Christmas. I tried one on my icy cold foot...almost instant warmth and comfort...I want a pair but pink isn't my color.
