    Default Southern A.T. Campsites

Going to hike A.T. from Fontana to Springer next month. Looking at several campsites listed in guide, but also see info that they may be closed due to revegetation. Campsites are Betty Creek Gap, Albert Mtn. Fire Tower. Does anyone know if either of these sites are currently closed. Any info would be appreciated!!

Betty Creek has a different area open for camping, the best area is what is closed. I don't recall seeing any signs about re-vegetation at Albert Mountain FT. We were at both in early July.

I believe the closed area at Albert Mtn is from the old shelter on the North side. It is closed to camping, or was the last time I was through there. I don't see why they would have reopened it.

There are plenty of unmarked spots all over the place, you can almost certainly find a good spot within a mile of these locations.

Why not just camp where your supost to? There are shelters near-by both those locations and make life a whole lot easier and more convenient.

And you can bet they use the AT to run between the two. Better use the bear resistant storage systems at the shelters.
